Supercars star and Manukau local Shane van Gisbergen has completed yet another dominant weekend in the championship.
The Red Bull Ampol racer won two of the weekend’s three races to go with a second-place finish at Sandown Raceway in Melbourne to extend his championship lead to a whopping 500 points.
It was the 70th win of his career, moving him up to fourth in the all-time standings, and the 16th of the season. He is within striking distance of fellow Kiwi Scott McLaughlin’s record of 18 wins in a season.
Van Gisbergen could threaten that milestone when the championship moves to Pukekohe for the next round next month.
