Counties Manukau two-day skipper and first class player Sam Varcoe has been chosen as the best batsman in Counties Manukau Cricket in a player poll conducted by Counties Sports Hub.

Varcoe edged out Karaka teammate Luke Williamson and Manukau City skipper Sandeep Patel in a close battle.

Opening batsman Varcoe secured 42% of votes from five of the six premier clubs (Manukau City decided not to participate).

Williamson and Patel each received 25% of the vote.

One participant said both Varcoe and Patel were worthy choices. “If I had to pick someone to bat for my life, I would choose Sam but if it had to pick someone to pay to watch bat, I would choose Sandeep,” the participant said.

All three batsmen have enjoyed outstanding seasons for their respective clubs so far in 2022-23.
