Pukekohe Metro Cricket Club are the 2020 Spark Regional Competition champions after the local side beat Marist Suburbs from Hamilton by 67 runs on Saturday.

The Spark Regional Competition includes premier sides from Counties Manukau, Hamilton and Waikato Valley regions.

Sent in to bad first, Pukekohe Metro posted a meagre total of 181 after they were bowled out at Galloway Park in Hamilton.

Northern Knights representative player Katene Clarke powered the visitors with 55 off 81 balls while Matt Wilson contributed 37and opener Aue Parima 23 off 13 balls at the top of the line-up.

The 84-run stand between Clarke and Wilson was the only partnership of substance in the Pukekohe innings as wickets continued fall at regular intervals.

But the Pukekohe attack has been in form over the past month or so and they wrestled the initiative back from the outset, reducing the home side to 16/4 with seamers Reid Somani and Declan O’Brien doing the damage.

In the end Pukekohe Metro mopped up the tail to bowl Marist Suburbs out for 114 and secure the trophy – the first time it has been won by a club from Counties Manukau.

O’Brien and spinner Kurt Barnes took three wickets apiece while Somani and Corey Hunter each had two wickets.
