Newcomers Southern Counties were crowned Club of the Year at the annual Counties Manukau Cricket Association Awards last week.
The amalgamated outfit, comprising individual clubs Waiuku, Tuakau and Mauku, joined the Premier competition for the 2021-22 season along with Weymouth.
They performed admirably, getting better as the season progressed and had some terrific individual performances that resulted in David Shine and Haydon Danford gaining selection in the Counties Manukau men’s first team.
Waiuku president Darrell Abbott was recognised for the work he did putting the concept together alongside his counterparts at Tuakau and Mauku.
Sandeep Patel (Manukau City) claimed the Outstanding Representative Cricketer award after a tremendous all-round campaign while skipper Sam Varcoe (Karaka) picked up the Outstanding Senior Rep Performance as well as best batsman.
Pukekohe Metro’s Reid Somani was named best bowler while Patel claimed the best fielder award.
The CMCA Young Male Cricketer of the Year went to Papakura’s Aryandeep Mann while the CMCA Young Female Cricketer of the Year was awarded to Ananya Sharma.
Manukau City all-rounder Rikesh Patel claimed the Premier MVP Points trophy.
