Two local cricketers have been included in a Districts side to contest the provincial over 50s national competition in early January.

Tuakau’s Steve Kane and Pukekohe Metro’s Adil Somani have been selected to play in the side comprised of players from Northern Districts and most of the Central Districts area and will take part in the January 6-11 in Auckland.

Somani – an all-rounder – played first class cricket with Northern Districts and was a successful coach of Counties Manukau until this season. Kane is a handy accumulator and has recently returned to cricket after a number of seasons away from the sport.

The pair will by vying for a place in the New Zealand side to play at the Over 50s World Cup, which is named after the regional tournament.

The World Cup will take place in Cape Town in early 2022.
