Karaka edged Weymouth in a thrilling Pool B Spark Cup match on Saturday as the two local sides flexed their muscles in the regional competition.

Talented wicketkeeper batsman Aryandeep Mann scored 122 to anchor the Weymouth innings batting first as they posted 234-8 off their 50 overs.

Navjot Sran collected four wickets for Karaka.

Powered by a brilliant 175-run opening stand by Sam Varcoe and Marcel Marconi, Karaka chased down the target in the 47th over and only lost three wickets in the process.

Varcoe finished 138 not out while Marconi was dismissed for 72.

Southern Districts picked up their first win of the competition as they grabbed a 48-run win over St Pauls in their Pool B clash.

Bayden Morey’s 76 helped Southern post 152 all out in the 31st over batting first.

Four wickets to Finn Williams and three to Andrew Goodare helped the visitors bowl St Pauls out for 104.

In Pool A, Pukekohe Metro got the better of Manukau City in a local derby.

Manukau City won the toss and elected to bat and got off to a good start thanks to impressive recruit Flynn McGregor-Sumpter, who scored 50.

They ended up with 174 all out in the 44th over – Rikesh Patel the only other scorer of note with 32.

Pukekohe Metro skipper Reid Somani took 4-36 while spinner Kurt Barnes had three wickets.

Fraser Farrell’s 51 led the Pukekohe run-chase as they reached the target with two wickets and eight overs to spare.

Cambridge posted 276 batting first against Papakura before rolling the home side for just 107.

Opening bowler Satpal Singh was the star of the show with the ball for Papakura, taking 6-52 off 9.4 overs while Lucky Singh chimed in with a couple.

Ishaan Jain (28) and Mandeep Kler (27 not out) were the only Papakura batsmen to put up any resistance.
