Kiwi driver Shane van Gisbergen finished second and fifth in the two races on the streets of the Gold Coast over the weekend but is now at long odds to win a fourth Supercars crown.

The Manukau City product remains second in the standings and didn’t lose any ground to title rival Brodie Kostecki over the weekend but now has only two races left to haul in the Coca Cola Racing driver.

Van Gisbergen took advantage of a rare mediocre day for Kostecki on Saturday, climbing through the field late to finish a narrow second to Cam Waters.

But a kerb strike during the top 10 shoot out on Sunday left Van Gisbergen at the back of the top 10 for Sunday’s race with Kostecki on pole.

The pair reversed Saturday’s results, with Van Gisbergen climbing to fifth and Kostecki finishing second to David Reynolds.

Kostecki holds a 131-point lead with 300 up for grabs in the final two races.

The final race weekend is at Adelaide at the end of November.
