Manukau City’s Tayden Smit has led the Counties Manukau U19 cricket side to a victory over Coastlands at Karaka in their first major hit-out of the summer on Sunday.

Smit, won the toss and elected to bat first, and led from the front – scoring a brilliant 142 to guide an inexperienced batting side to 275 from their allotted overs.

Karaka’s Oscar Taylor scored 54 not out, while Papakura’s Abhay Kaushal scored 27 and Pukekohe Metro’s James Kingham 24.

Manukau City bowler Oscar Anderson led the attack, picking up figures of 3-46 as the home side bowled Coastlands out for 248.

Papakura player Ishaan Jain took 2-40.

The Counties Manukau U19s side play the Northern Districts U19 Tournament in Gisborne in a couple of weeks.

Fraser Farrell (Pukekohe Metro) and Aryandeep Mann (Weymouth) were not available this week having been called up for the senior men’s Counties Manukau side.

Mann, Smit and Anderson have been selected to play for Northern Districts U19s at the national tournament.
