Counties Sports Hub takes a look at the best cricketers in the region – counting down from 30 – the most influential players across all formats.

5. Sandeep Patel (Manukau City)

The Manukau City skipper scored a maiden first class century earlier in the summer but hasn’t been given any more opportunities since. A stylish and dashing batsmen that has anchored Manukau City’s play, Patel is one of the premier players in the region. He is also a more than handy medium-paced bowler.

4. Sam Varcoe (Karaka)

The Counties Manukau captain has enjoyed a terrific club season, scoring runs in both formats and against all opponents. A classical left-handed opener, Varcoe has proven to be the most consistent player in club cricket once again this season.

3. Bharat Popli (Pukekohe Metro)

The slightly controversial inclusion in our list given that Popli plays his representative cricket in the Bay of Plenty. He does however represent Pukekohe Metro and has appeared for them on a handful of occasions in the first half of the season. One of the best first class batsmen in the country.

2. Katene Clarke (Pukekohe Metro)

Rarely does Clarke get to play for club side Pukekohe Metro these days but he remains one of the region’s very best – representing Northern Districts in all formats. An aggressive top order batsmen, Clarke has all the shots and backs it up with his brilliant fielding.

1. Jeet Raval (Manukau City)

Raval has become the regular captain of Northern Districts and is enjoying another superb season. The former Black Caps test opener has improved his T20 game so much that he has become the region’s leading batsmen in that format as well. Played for Counties Manukau at the Northern Brave T20 tournament.
