Franklin Softball has finished runner-up at the Softball New Zealand U19 National Championships in Hutt Valley after a brilliant week.

The local side won seven of eight pool games to qualify for the finals before they went down to hosts Hutt Valley 13-2 in the championship game.

It is a terrific achievement for the association in just its fourth years of existence.

Tipene Kennedy had a huge tournament, driving in nine runs and including two home runs, while Xzavier Haddon also had nine RBIs.

Kennedy and outfielder Jamie Joseph were named to the tournament team.
