Mangere’s Extreme Trampoline star Dylan Schmidt became the first ever Kiwi trampolinist to win an Olympic medal when he secured a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on Saturday.

The 24-year-old posted the third highest scores in both preliminary routines before scoring 60.675 in a faultless performance in the final.

“Honestly, last night I had a great sleep. I wear my watch to sleep and my resting heart rate was 39. It’s never been that low before in my life. I was calm, I was so ready,” he told Sky Sport.

“I did feel like something was going to happen differently today. I knew I was in a good place, my body was feeling great, my attitude, my mind, everything was on point. I’m just stoked that it happened and it played out how I dreamed it.”

Schmidt finished seventh at Rio de Janeiro five years ago.
