Counties Manukau Heat star Ruby Tui has helped the Black Ferns Sevens side win the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Saturday night.

The Black Ferns become the first New Zealand side to be crowned Olympic champions and add to the silver medal the All Blacks Sevens side won earlier in the week.

Having accounted for Fiji in an epic semi-final earlier on Saturday, that saw the game go to extra time, the Black Ferns faced France in the gold medal match.

They scored the opening try and led throughout the match to claim a 26-12 win and earn New Zealand’s 50th Olympic gold medal.

The Black Ferns won the silver medal in Rio in 2016.
