Joseph Parker has thrown the challenge down to South Auckland rival Junior Fa at today’s press conference ahead of Saturday night’s fight at Spark Arena.

Parker, the WBO heavyweight champion from 2016-2018, needs a convincing win if he is to establish himself again at the top of the heavyweight tree and fight for a world title again.

“There’s no secret that going into a fight, a fighter wants a knockout,” Parker said. “That’s what I’m going to be looking for. I think that’s what he’s going to be looking for too. But I know that I possess the power to knock him out.

“That’s my plan. That’s what I want to do – one, two, three, four, five, six – I want to get him early.”

Fa wasn’t perturbed and has never lost a pro fight.

“I can beat him,” Fa said. “If I hurt him, I’ll take him down.

“I feel much better than my old self a few months ago. I’m feeling fully prepared for this fight. I feel like I’m peaking at the right time. I’m just feeling good. I’m getting excited – I can’t wait for the night.

“He can hit. I can move and I can dodge punches.”

Parker and Fa have fought four times previously as amateurs, with a 2-2 split but have never squared off in a pro bout before.
