Wicketkeeper- batsman Aryandeep Mann’s monster century has powered Weymouth into a dominant position against Southern Districts in the second round of the W.H Taylor Shield on Saturday.

Mann’s brilliant 163 helped Weymouth post 270 in their first innings.

Left-arm spinner Finn Williams picked up five wickets for Southern.

Manukau City have grabbed the initiative in their crucial clash with early season leaders Pukekohe Metro at Bledisloe Park.

Opening bowlers Ben Hawkes (4-22) and Scott Johnston (3-16) did the damage for the visitors as they knocked the top off the Pukekohe order.

Only first class star Bharat Popli (58) put up any resistance as Pukekohe were bowled out for just 99.

An unbroken opening stand of 94 had Manukau City within five runs of securing first innings points when rain ended play early.

Pratik Lawande (49*) and Flynn McGregor-Sumpter (38*) will be at the crease when play resumes next weekend.

Karaka held the upper hand against Papakura in their local derby clash at Bruce Pulman Park.

After being inserted, Karaka were 253-6 at stumps with Dan Power’s 68 the best of the day from the visitors.

Devon Wilson (52 not out) and Navjot Sran (34 not out) helped drive home the initiative with a strong seventh wicket stand while Luke Williamson (34) and Sam Varcoe (32) also were in the runs.

Satinder Gill claimed three wickets for the home side.
