Weymouth will look to chase their first piece of Premier silverware since returning to the top grade when they meet Karaka in the Duthie Cup one day final at Bruce Pulman Park on Saturday.

It has been a highly successful season for Weymouth, who only returned to the top flight last summer.

They proved to be more than competitive and have enjoyed a lot of success against their grand final opponents already this season.

Karaka are celebrating their Spark Regional Competition title, which they won in convincing fashion against arch-rivals Pukekohe Metro on Sunday.

They possess the best top four batting line-up in the competition in the form of Counties Manukau representative skipper Sam Varcoe, captain Luke Williamson and experienced Marcel Marconi and Dan Power.

Weymouth’s chances of success could well come down to how much they can limit the run-scoring of those four players.

They will rely heavily on JayDee Singh and Pankaj Kumar, who have been stand outs for the side since returning to the Premier fold, while impressive left-arm spinner Rohit Gulati has starred for the Counties Manukau representative side since arriving at the club this season.

The match begins at 10.30am.
