Karaka has edged Manukau City as the best overall premier team in this year’s competition according to their peers and were chosen as the best run club in the region.

Karaka (who won the W.H Taylor two-day and Duthie Cup one-day trophies last season) received 45% of the votes of premier players surveyed by Counties Sports Hub as the best overall team this season.

Manukau City (who won the Inder Lynch T20 competition) received 36% of votes.

Multiple players from five of the six clubs took part in the poll – Manukau City opted not to participate. Players were not allowed to vote for their own club.

Pukekohe Metro was the only other club to receive votes – collecting 18%.

All three clubs remain in the hunt for the Inder Lynch T20 trophy and the Duthie Cup this season while Pukekohe Metro and Karaka will contest the Spark Regional Competition decider, whose final was washed out on the weekend.

A replay will take place at a later stage.

Karaka was easily the pick as the best run club in the region – receiving over double the number of votes of their nearest rival.

Pukekohe Metro received 27% of the total vote while Manukau City and Southern Counties also received at least one vote.

Pukekohe Metro was nominated as the club players most enjoy beating – attracting 64% of votes from the players that participated – in a nod to their long-term success.

Karaka received the next highest number of votes with 18% while Southern Counties and Manukau City each received one vote.

Counties Sports Hub will release findings on numerous topics over the coming days – including best batsman, best bowler, best fielder, best wicketkeeper and best sledger.
