The Howick Hornets will still have some work to do to play in the Fox Memorial Premiership this season after they slumped to a 38-16 loss to the Bay Roskill Vikings on Saturday.

It means the Hornets fall to one win, one loss on the season and will need at least a draw against the Northcote Tigers in their final qualifier this coming week to ensure they make the competition proper.

The Manukau Magpies took a significant step towards booking themselves a spot in the Fox Memorial Premiership for a second straight season after an important 28-18 win away to the Hibiscus Coast Raiders.

The Magpies will stay up if they beat the Pt Chevalier Pirates or the Raiders lose to the Mt Albert Lions in Pool C next weekend.

The Papakura Sea Eagles and Otahuhu Leopards have both secured a place in the Fox Memorial Premiership after improving to 2-0 on the season.

The Sea Eagles beat Mangere East Hawks 62-8 while the Leopards accounted for the Otara Scorpions 30-6.

It means the Hawks and Scorpions will play off for a spot in the Premiership next weekend.
