The Franklin Bulls have added two American imports to bolster their roster ahead of the 2023 Sal’s NBL season.

The Bulls have picked up Breakers forward Jamaal Brantley and point guard Rickey McGill, who shape up to be key pieces for coach Daniel Sokolovsky.

Brantley is well known to Sokolovsky, having coached him with the Breakers this season.

“Jamaal Brantley is going to be an invaluable leader within our group,” said Sokolovsky. “The Bulls are getting an experienced, intelligent, and selfless person who is an even better player – especially for the Bulls style of play. Jamaal has an innate feel for taking small advantages and making them bigger. Moving the ball quickly, being decisive on the floor and exploiting whatever opportunities the defense presents. He is comfortable in a variety of positions and brings a great balance of size and skill that will allow us to exploit match-ups as we see fit.”

McGill has four years pro experience in Europe. Hailing from Spring Valley New York, McGill recently compiled averages of 16.9 PTS, 3.6 REB, 5.3 AST & 2.0 STL on 50.7% FG (46.7% 3PT) in 11 games with Sopron KC in Hungary.

His experience at the pro level is going to be invaluable according to Sokolovsky.

“Rickey McGill is something of a hidden gem. He was making a textbook rise up the ranks of European basketball before being slightly derailed by an ill-timed injury. In each of his previous professional destinations, his arrival to the team coincided with a clear shift in team performance. It’s this winning mentality that makes him a special addition to the Franklin Bulls.”

The Bulls host the Auckland Tuatara in a pre-season game at Franklin Pool and Leisure Centre on Sunday with tip off at 5.30pm.
