The latest extension to the Auckland Level 3 lockdown imposed by the government has seen all winter codes put on hold until September 6 at the earliest.

Prime Minister Jacinda Arden confirmed the region would remain in Level 3 lockdown until 11.59pm on Sunday night before going into a minimum seven days of Level 2 restrictions.

Auckland Rugby League issued a statement confirming there would be no community play during this period.

“The suspension of all rugby league activity in Auckland (playing, contact and non-contact training and gatherings) has now been extended until Sunday, September 6 in response to the latest Government ruling,” the ARL statement read.

“This means all Auckland Rugby League games scheduled to take place during the August 29-30 and September 5-6 rounds are now cancelled.

“The Government announced on Monday that Auckland’s level three restrictions will be extended until 11.59pm on August 30, with the region to then move to Level 2 restrictions from that point until at least September 6.

“Tighter restrictions will also be in place under Level 2, including a 10-person gathering limit, prohibiting any rugby league activity until after a Government review on September 6, as stated by the New Zealand Rugby League on Monday.”

Northern Region Football issued a statement saying they are “working through the process to reach a confirmed position on the status of the delivery of football and futsal for the week commencing Monday 31 August and beyond in line with Ministry of Health requirements.”

Counties Manukau Rugby already confirmed that any return to play would be after September 6 if the region didn’t come out of Level 3 during the middle of this week. They are currently seeking more information about what a return to rugby after that date might look like.
