Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen has secured his third Supercars championship after winning both races on the streets of the Gold Coast over the weekend.

The Manukau City product dominated the field in yet another classy performance to comfortably win both 250km races and take an unassailable lead in the championship with one round to go.

Van Gisbergen made an early pass on pole-sitter David Reynolds in Saturday’s race before racing away from the field and securing the title.

“We had to beat one car to secure it, but we killed everyone,” van Gisbergen said.

“That was amazing, it was a great battle at the start, Dave was driving awesome. I enjoyed racing him, it’s been a while.

“Thank you to Red Bull Ampol Racing… what a year, it’s been a lot of fun.

“It’s certainly pretty special, to see the guys, how much effort they’ve been putting in, how good our cars are.

“I’m stoked, it’s hard to put it into words yet.”

He then backed it up by clinching pole and taking a comfortable victory in Sunday’s race.

The championship concludes at Adelaide in early December.
