Counties Sports Hub takes a look at the best performing players from Counties Manukau clubs through the Spark Cup regional one-day competition.

Sam Varcoe (Karaka)
The premier batsman in Counties Manukau really stood up for his club side during the Spark Cup, leading from the front and providing his side with an excellence platform from which to work. He needed a little help late in the tournament but did all he good for the defending champions.

Flynn McGregor-Sumpter (Manukau City)
What an addition McGregor-Sumpter has proven to be. Having joined the club this season, he has instantly announced himself as a first-choice selection in Counties Manukau rep sides. He enjoyed a stellar campaign that carried his side to the final.

Luke Williamson (Karaka)
Williamson was over-shadowed with the bat by Varcoe but still produced a solid campaign. Throw in his captaincy, his quality medium-paced bowling and his brilliant fielding and you have a player you can’t leave out of a side. Edges his clubmate Dan Power to make our Form XI.

Sandeep Patel (Manukau City)
Patel had another superb campaign as he led his Manukau City side to the final. He contributed strongly in almost all games he played, his runs proving key in a number of matches. It is a shame he isn’t rewarded with more first class games after an early season century but Manukau City a reaping the benefits.

Aryandeep Mann (Weymouth)
Mann’s batting sees him get the nod as our Form XI wicketkeeper, just in front of the other major contenders – Shane Setia (Papakura), David Shine (Southern) and Le-Shur Vermeulen (Manukau City). Mann scored some key runs at the top of the order for Weymouth and he helped win some key games for his team.

Rikesh Patel (Manukau City)
Patel has fashioned himself into a genuine all-rounder and was a key performer for a Manukau City side that made their way to the final. He scored some vital runs at times and also picked up key wickets that helped turned games with his spin bowling.

Reid Somani (Pukekohe Metro)
Somani has enjoyed a strong all-round season to date, scoring key runs for Pukekohe Metro while also taking plenty of wickets. His captaincy has kept his side in some key games as well as they made their run to the semi-finals. His absence from the semi-final was a key factor in their heart-breaking loss.

Rohit Kumar (Weymouth)
Considered by many as the best bowler in Counties Manukau right now – the left arm spinner had a sensational Spark Cup and was consistently in the wickets each game. He also scored some key runs for his Weymouth club to be a dead cert selection in our Form XI.

David Kingham (Pukekohe Metro)
Kingham earned a Counties Manukau senior debut on the back of a terrific season with Pukekohe Metro. He claimed plenty of wickets with his finger spin and was also a handy contributor with the bat in the lower order for Pukekohe.

Andrew Goodare (Southern Districts)
Goodare is an under-rated bowler – certainly not express pace but he moves the ball in the air and challenges good batsmen. He got some key wickets for Southern Districts and has become captain of the side at times this season. He edges the likes of Usman Ghani (Weymouth), Cam Jerram (Karaka) and clubmate Grady Wilcox in our Form XI.

Ben Hawkes (Manukau City)
Another young player that has really announced himself this season. Hawkes has been right up there with Kumar as the region’s premier bowler this season. With Manukau City missing key new ball bowlers Scott Johnston and James Naylor for much of the campaign, Hawkes has stood up and delivered with a stack of wickets. Thoroughly deserving of his selection in the Counties Manukau rep team.
