The Counties Manukau PIC Steelers have claimed their second win of the NPC with a hard-fought 18-13 win over Bay of Plenty at Tauranga Domain on Sunday.

Six Riley Hohepa penalty goals proved the difference alongside the resolute PIC Steelers defence, that turned away the home side repeatedly in the second half.

The game was a tit-for-tat affair with the lead changing multiple times.

Hohepa, as he has done throughout the NPC competition so far, controlled things well for Reon Graham’s side and was a perfect six from six from the tee.

Open side flanker Adam Brash and winger Benji Malimali were heavily involved while halfback Cameron Roigard continued his strong run of form.

It improves the PIC Steelers record to two wins and two losses and sees them keep pace with the leading sides on their side of the draw.

The PIC Steelers travel north to Albany next Sunday to play North Harbour.
