The Southern Souls from Manurewa made it two from two in netball’s Regional Premier League as they defeated the Karaka Diamonds 63-36 in Division 1 action at Papakura Netball Centre.

It backs up their opening week win over Mellons Bay.

“One of the winning factors behind our success of two from two is the versatility of the majority of our players who can play any position, and play it well,” coach Devida Hati-Ross said.

“We are able to adapt our style of play every quarter to confuse the opposition.  We had our short C play GD on Friday for a quarter and she collected about five intercepts for us.  Our GK played GS for a quarter and our GS played GK.

“We can speed the game up or slow it down anytime.

“I’m very proud of my players as they don’t train together like the other teams do, some are overloaded with netball midweek playing in the Auckland Premier competition and the Manurewa Saturday competition, some also have some serious injuries but get strapped by their physios so they can play.

“I like to think they are a very cohesive bunch of talented netballers who truly are “Souls Sisters”,” Hati-Ross said.

Manurewa Rugby Gold joined Southern Souls on eight competition points as they won for the second week running as well – beating Pythons from Pukekohe 75-40.

Pukekohe Netball Centre’s Maramarua got their first win of the competition as they defeated Howick Pakuranga’s Mellons Bay 47-40.

Conifer Grove Platinum from Papakura Netball Centre is the only unbeaten side in Division 2 after the opening fortnight. They beat Tuakau 54-49 to go to the top of the standings.

Tuakau did manage a bonus point however.

The Mangere Hawks upstaged Mangere Otahuhu Netball Centre rivals Revelation Titans 57-44 to get their first win of the season.
