A 10- wicket haul from Michael Schofield and yet another Sam Varcoe century has helped Karaka to claim first innings points over Pukekohe Metro in their WH Taylor Shield two-day cricket match at Karaka Sports Complex.

Karaka made 280 all out after winning the toss last weekend and batting first. After making a good start Pukekohe Metro were bowled out for 249 with Schofield taking 5/87 to ensure the home side picked up first innings points.

Varcoe hit his sixth century of the summer to help Karaka post 238/3 declared in their second dig – Luke Williamson finishing on 72 not out.

Schofield then piled the pressure on the visitors by claiming another five wickets in their second innings but Karaka ran out of time to bowl the T20, one-day and Spark Regional competition champions.

Manukau City got their campaign off to the perfect start with an outright win over Papakura at Memorial Park.

They grabbed a narrow first innings lead last weekend but rammed home that advantage on Saturday.

Manukau City reached 287/5 declared with Le-Shur Vermeulen top scoring on 75 while Richard Faust added 74, Sandeep Patel 68 and Alastair Vermeulen ended up 44 not out.

Le-Shur Vermeulen then picked up 5/62 and Manoj Kumar Meesala 4/51 to bowl Papakura out for 207.

Manukau City Fearless X1 kept their winning run alive with a 29-run win over Waiuku in Senior A Championship action. Suraj Gupta’s 73 helped set up a total of 247 before they bowled Waiuku out for 218 to remain in top spot.

Papakura Turf Raiders moved to third place with a 107-run win over Pukekohe Metro Green. Openers Mandeep Singh (86) and Kamal Deep Deep (65) continued their strong run of form by helping Papakura to 292 all out. In reply, Pukekohe Metro Green managed just 185.

The Weymouth Mighty Kings successfully chased down 231 to pick up a narrow one-wicket win over Pukekohe Metro Gold.

In Senior A Plate action Manukau City Red piled on a massive 333/7 off their 50 overs before Tuakau got within 61 runs of the target.

Karaka thrashed Papakura Heat by 111 runs on the back of half centuries from David Pearce and Clayton Franks.

United claimed a forfeit win over Weymouth.

Weymouth Eastern Kings remain atop the Senior B standings after they beat Papakura Blue by 70 runs. Half centuries from Mayank Sood and Prabjot Singh powered the Weymouth outfit to 284/8. Despite 113 from Charlie Hastings, Papakura never got close.

A whirlwind 96 of 56 balls from Love Randhava at number seven in the order helped Manukau City Punjab Lions post 205 against Glenbrook Maramarua. Glenbrook Maramarua were all out for 167 in reply.

Papakura Blue enjoyed a 54-run win over Weymouth to move to a share of third in the standings behind the Eastern Kings and Glenbrook Maramarua.

The United Pirates, Manukau City Zoo XI and Weymouth Hardly Athletic had wins in T20 championship grade while Pohutukawa Coast, Pukekohe Metro and Karaka won in the plate grade.
