Pukekohe High School has made a terrific start to their Secondary Schools Nationals Qualifying tournament at Eventfinda Stadium on Auckland’s North Shore.

The Jamie Reddish-coached side went two for two on the opening day, accounting to St Peter’s College 93-67 before beating Whangarei Boys’ High 73-66.

Payton Hughes was the standout for Pukekohe, scoring 28 points against St Peters before adding 24 against Whangarei, while Brodie Perry had 14 points and 21 points respectively.

They face Waitakere and Rosmini on Thursday but are on track to make the top eight.

The top seven finishers will advance to the New Zealand Secondary Schools Nationals – something Pukekohe High has never achieved before.
