Defending champions Patumahoe finished the John Spiers Trophy Wider Auckland Pre-season competition with a 21-5 win over Pakuranga at Bell Park in Pakuranga on Saturday.

Winless in their opening two matches, Brad Healy’s side tuned up for the McNamara Cup with a solid win in their final pre-season game.

Pukekohe finished the competition on a high, beating Auckland’s Grammar TEC 34-17 at Cornwall Park to have a two wins, one loss record throughout the competition.

Reigning McNamara Cup champions Manurewa were soundly beaten 59-5 by Takapuna at Mountfort Park.

Takapuna were crowned champions for 2024 as a result.
