The PIC Steelers have scored after the full-time siren to secure a second bonus point as they went down to Canterbury 44-39 at Navigation Homes Stadium in Pukekohe.

Showing plenty of fight and enterprise once again, Reon Graham’s side refused to let top-ranked Canterbury dictate terms and walked away from the first of three games within their storm week with two valuable competition points in their pocket.

Replacement hooker Ioane Moananu put winger Esau Filimoehala over the line with time expired much to the delight of another sizeable home crowd.

It was their fifth try of the afternoon.

The PIC Steelers lost skipper Sean Reidy to injury in the first half while fullback Jared Page limped off early in the second spell – a concern ahead of their successive games on the road this week coming against Taranaki and Southland.

Halfback Cameron Roigard, in his blazer game for the PIC Steelers, first-five Riley Hohepa and winger Peniasi Malimali were terrific once again.

Graham also got plenty of impact off his bench.

The PIC Steelers head to New Plymouth to face Taranaki on Wednesday night before a trip to Invercargill to play Southland next weekend.
