Joseph Parker has claimed an unconvincing points decision over fellow South Auckkander Junior Fa in their heavyweight bout at Spark Arena in Auckland on Saturday night.

Parker, who held the WBO heavyweight title from 2016-2018, wasn’t able to muster the knockout that he really needed to prove he has the credentials to fight once again for a world title.

Instead he looked to have Fa’s measure early before the 31-year-old got himself back into the fight midway through the 12 rounds.

Neither fighter threatened the other with genuine power.

The three judges scored the bout 119-109, 115-113 and 117-111 in Parker’s favour – the surprise being in how convincing the result appears on paper.

It means Parker improves his record to 28-2.

The loss is the first in Fa’s professional career.
