Pukekohe Netball Centre has come up with a novel approach to getting volunteer umpires to put their hand up this season.

Anyone who volunteers to umpire a game throughout the season will go into the draw to win a share of $1,000 worth of Prezzy cards.

There will be two winners per round – two U18 umpires (who each receive a $200 Prezzy card) and two umpires aged 18 and over (who will get a $300 Prezzy card each).

“We have been trying to think of ways to encourage umpires to put their hands up and give back to the sport” said Jess Cochrane Umpire Co-ordinator.

“Every umpire named on the draw will have a chance to win at the end of each round. The more games they do each round the higher the chance of winning the prize.

“There are two rounds so there will be a $1,000 going out to umpires.”

Pukekohe Netball Centre has a dedicated group of people that choose to volunteer for all sorts of reasons from simply the satisfaction of being involved or giving back, to getting a competitive advantage when playing by having gained an umpire’s perspective. Qualifications gained during this time will gain extra entries!

“Hopefully this initiative gives some players the opportunity to see the benefits of umpiring.”

The initiative will begin when the first competition round starts on May 15.
