Counties Manukau have scored a memorable outright win over Hamilton in their Fergus Hickey Rosebowl match at Mountfort Park over the weekend.

Batting first on Saturday, the home side posted 235 all out with Sandeep Patel’s 65 leading the way. He got some help from skipper Sam Varcoe (45), Marcel Marconi (33) and Leon Marconi (31).

A disciplined bowling performance put Counties Manukau on top however as they bowled the visitors out for just 198 to gain first innings points and a lead of 37.

Scott Johnston continued is run for form, taking 3-50, while fellow quick James Naylor had 2-39 and Leon Marconi 2-24.

With those key first innings points safely secured, Counties Manukau went all-out aggression in their second innings as they smashed their way to 202-5 declared.

Varcoe led the way with a stunning 114 not out off 66 balls.

He gave Hamilton a target of 240 to win and his bowlers responded by bowling them out for 227 and securing a 12-run victory.

Spinner Kurt Barnes claimed 4-94 while Leon Marconi had three wickets and Johnston two.

Counties Manukau are well-placed in the competition having taken first innings points in their opening match against Waikato Valley.
