The EnviroNZ Franklin Bulls’ 2022 Sal’s National Basketball League roster is coming together nicely and they look to be one of the competition front runners on paper at least a couple months out from the competition opener.

General Manager Scott Kelso and head coach Morgan Maskell have assembled a strong roster of local talent and will be well placed if overseas imports are not able to take part in the championship this season – which is looking more and more likely due to the COVID situation.

Fan favourite Denhym Brooke returns as does exciting young point guard Jett Thompson – both who exceeded expectations with the Bulls in 2021.

But the addition of small forward Kane Bennett-Keil (who won championships with the Nuggets and Saints in recent years) as well as big men Josh Leger and Anzac Rissetto and the acquisition of the talented guard Jayden Bezzant will give the Bulls a roster that should stack up favourably with any other team.

Their latest signing was amateur player Christian Martin, who was added to the mix on Saturday.

Martin is a talented small forward out of Westlake College, who is tipped for a big future.

Injuries to star imports and other leading players derailed a promising maiden campaign for the Bulls last year but they look to have made a big leap forward for their second full season competing in the Sal’s NBL.

The season tips off on April 7 when the Bulls host newcomers the Auckland Tuatara at Franklin Pool and Leisure Centre.
