Manurewa AFC will play in the National League for the first time since 1984 after their win over Manukau United guaranteed them a spot in the top four of the Northern League with two rounds remaining.

They will be part of the national league that runs over the summer months alongside the best clubs in the country.

It caps a remarkable rise for the club, who won promotion to the Northern League less than 12 months ago.

“Current coach Paul Marshall, who once wore the club’s colours as a player during that era, understands the significance of this achievement better than most,” the club posted on Facebook.

“His presence on the sidelines symbolises the enduring connection between past and present, a thread of commitment that binds generations of players and fans alike.”

Football lead, Farhad Bhamji calls this a win for South Auckland. “Manurewa AFC will be representing South Auckland in the National League. We have bigger dreams and this is just the beginning.”
