Southern Counties picked up their first ever win in the W.H Taylor Shield competition as they thrashed Papakura by 148 runs in their two-day modified contest on Saturday.

Batting first Southern Counties posted 222 all out with opener Manpreet Singh (63), Sam Saunokonoko (48) and Shaun Lovett (38) doing the bulk of the scoring.

Youngster Finn Williams then produced his best performance in Premier cricket (6-13) in an inspired spell to skittle Papakura for just 74.

Haydon Danford had two wickets while Andrew Goodare and Kerwyn Oppert also picked up wickets.

Karaka backed up their win over arch-rivals Pukekohe Metro in the Duthie Cup final earlier this month by hammering the visitors at Karaka Sports Complex.

Karaka made 303-4 batting first with Sam Varcoe scoring 82, Dan Power not out 74, Terrence Otterson 56 in his 100th Premier game and Luke Williamson 54 in a dominant display from their top order.

Stuart Kett then took 4-31 while Navjot Sran and Michael Schofield had a pair of wickets each to bowl Pukekohe out for 124.

Manukau City claimed an outright win over neighbours Weymouth in the final match of the round.

Manukau City made 160 with Alastair Vermeulen top scoring on 44.

Rikesh Patel and Stan Skinner picked up three wickets apiece while Nathan Halliday had two to help bowl Weymouth out for 103.
