The EnviroNZ Franklin Bulls basketball franchise will make their National Basketball League debut against the Taranaki Mountainairs on Wednesday June 24 at Trusts Stadium in Waitakere. The Pukekohe-based Bulls committed to being part of a reshaped NBL in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and will be one of seven franchises taking part in a condensed format which sees all teams play at the West Auckland venue.

The team will return to its Franklin Recreation Centre home in Pukekohe next year. The Bulls face the Canterbury Rams in their second game a night later before a Sunday clash against new cross-town rival the Auckland Huskies. In total the Bulls will play 14 regular season games across the month-long round robin with a week-long playoff structure confirmed.

All games will be screened live on Sky Sport.

The highly regarded Liam Simmons has been confirmed as head coach of the Bulls for season 2020. The Australian was initially signed as the franchise’s inaugural coach but it looked like he would have to vacate the role due to other commitments when the season was delayed. But the condensed format of the reshaped league means he can now fit the season in.
