Counties Manukau Cricket is offering cricket holiday programmes for kids in school years 1-8 across the region.

Run at different venues each day, these programmes are designed for anyone to attend and will focus on learning new skills as well as improving existing ones in a fun, game-based environment.

“These programmes are for anyone to attend,” Counties Manukau Cricket Association Cricket Development Manager Serena Somlyai said.

“We are encouraging kids to play sports, to learn about cricket and to have some fun during the school holidays.

“It is all game-based skills – playing games that teach skills while also ensuring kids get to play and have fun at the same time. They are interactive games.

“Older kids will get to play a mini game of cricket at the end but it is mainly short game-type activities.”

Specialist coaches will run the holiday programmes and ensure kids enjoy themselves while getting plenty out of the experience.

“In school deliverers are running them – they run all of our after school and holiday programmes,” Somlyai explained.

“It gives kids that are already playing cricket the opportunity to further develop and have some fun while it is a commitment-free way for new kids to the sport to get a taste of cricket.”
