Counties Manukau have lost their one-day match against Waikato Valley at Mountfort Park by four wickets on Sunday.

Sent into bat, Counties Manukau made a promising start with skipper Sam Varcoe and fellow opener Marcel Marconi putting on 161 for the opening wicket.

Varcoe finished on 121 with Marconi dismissed for 65.

The home side ended their 50 overs on 294-9.

Scott Johnston, Reid Somani and Luke Williamson each picked up an early wicket to be on top before Waikato Valley put on 90 for the fourth wicket.

They were able to reach the target on the final ball of the 48th over for the loss of six wickets.

Johnston and Sandeep Patel picked up a pair of wickets each.
