Long-serving Counties Manukau Steelers first-five Baden Kerr has earned another shot at Super Rugby after linking with Fiji Drua for the 2022 Super Rugby Pacific competition.

Kerr previously played a couple of seasons for the Blues before a stint in Japan. He returned last year with the Steelers and helped club side Karaka win their first ever McNamara Cup before moving into a career in real estate.

The 32-year-old becomes the first non-Fijian eligible player in the Drua squad and will provide cover in the key first-five position.

He joins fellow Steelers players Viliame Rarasea and Zuriel Togiatama in the inaugural Drua squad.

His signing makes it 15 Counties Manukau players with Super Rugby contracts for 2022. Nepo Laulala, Dalton Papalii, Hoskins Sotutu and Tanielu Tele’a will play for the Blues, Etene Nanai-Seturo for the Chiefs and Cameron Roigard for the Hurricanes. Sekope Kepu, Ezekiel Lindenmuth, Alex McRobbie, Alamanda Motuga, Sam Slade and Jonathan Taumateine are all signed to the Moana Pasifika franchise.
