Weymouth secured a stunning win over Karaka on a difficult wicket at Mountfort Park in the second round of the W.H Taylor one-day modified competition on Saturday.

Batting first, the home side took their time amassing 168. Michael Schofield had three wickets for Karaka.

In reply Karaka were bowled out for 89 on the third-to-last ball of the day.

Weymouth took early wickets and had Karaka reeling at 20-4 thanks to some quality swing bowling and some up and down bounce.

They further reduced the visitors to 70-8 at 5.30pm but found a resistant Karaka lower order, digging in looking for a draw.

But when the fourth ball of the final over of the day kept low and dismissed Devon Wilson, Weymouth secured a crucial win.

Manukau City secured a key victory as they beat Papakura by five wickets at Bruce Pulman Park.

Papakura won the toss and opted to bat but struggled against the Manukau City attack.

Only Vishal Abrol (35) and Tarun Singh (30) found some success and the home side was bowled out for just 110.

Counties Manukau rep Louis Anderson claimed 3-8 off eight overs while Rikesh Patel chipped in with a pair of wickets.

Ivan Burrows top scored with an unbeaten 36 as Manukau City reached the target five down.

Kurt Barnes, Declan O’Brien and Blair Lovett each had two wickets as Pukekohe Metro completed a comfortable victory over Southern Counties at Bledisloe Park.

The visitors lost early and regular wickets, with Shaun Lovett (38) the only batsmen to put up any real resistance.

Pukekohe Metro made quick work of their run-chase with Aue Parima leading the way with an unbeaten 47 off 41 balls.

Grady Wilcox picked up three wickets for Southern Counties but the home side eased to the small target in the 31st over.
