Pukekohe Metro and Karaka will contest semi-finals in the Spark Regional Competition after victories in the penultimate round over the weekend.

Pukekohe Metro picked up another victory as they defended 278-7 against Cambridge to secure a 70-run win and have their destiny in their own hands now.

Half centuries from Fraser Farrell (84 off 72), Aue Parima (61 off 68) and Leon Marconi (57 off 86) helped Pukekohe Metro set a competitive total at Bledisloe Park.

Skipper Reid Somani was the star of the show with the ball as he claimed 5-47 to secure victory.

Skipper Luke Williamson’s 74, opener Terrence Otterson’s 33 and an unbeaten 31 from Michael Schofield helped Karaka post a competitive 218-8 batting first against Star University.

Cameron Jerram (3-30) and spinner Shaniel Patel-Ponda (3-37) turned the screws in the middle overs of the run-chase to secure Karaka a win by 74 runs.

Southern Counties missed an opportunity to secure a win as they bowled Melville out for 196.

Joseph Shuker and Andrew Goodare each picked up three wickets.

But the Southern bats failed to fire and they finished up all out for 123.

Papakura too, found themselves on the end of a one-sided loss as they fell to Marist Suburbs by nine wickets.

Batting first, Papakura posted 177 all out.

The Papakura bowlers tried in vain to get their side into the contest but could only manage the one wicket.

Weymouth won the toss and batted first against Fraser Tech and would have been a little disappointed with 163 all out.

Manpreet Singh scored 43 at number at number eight to top score.

Weymouth would capture just four wickets as the visitors cruised to the total.

Manukau City’s charge came to an end after they made just 138 all out having won the toss against Morrinsville Piako.

Skipper Sandeep Patel’s 28 was the best any Manukau City player could muster at Mountfort Park.

The total wasn’t going to be enough and the visitors got there with 21 overs and six wickets to spare.

James Naylor’s 3-46 was the pick of the Manukau City bowling performances.

Pukekohe Metro face Marist Suburbs in a final round contest at Bledisloe Park – the winner will top Pool A and avoid Karaka in the semi-finals.

Karaka have sewn up to spot in Pool B and are looking at a semi-final next week against Hamilton Old Boys or Star University depending on this week’s results.
