The Botany Swarm have swept their final round robin series against the West Auckland Admirals over the weekend to top the New Zealand Ice Hockey League standings.

The Swarm will sit back and watch to see if they will progress straight to the 2023 Grand Final or whether they will need to play in the semi-final series. They are 14 points clear of nearest rivals the Southern Stampede, but the Stampede still have six games in hand over the next couple of weeks.

The Swarm took out the opening game of the weekend 7-2 on Saturday night in front of a full house at Paradice Botany.

Jackson Fontaine and Petr Stepanek both had doubles in the win while Simon Luke, Ivan Dalmatau and Kyle Jonnson all found the back of the net.

Netminder Matt Canaday stopped 30 of 32 shots.

In Sunday’s second game, the Swarm had to come from two goals down to win 6-4.

Stepanek scored two more goals to move to 20 on the season and the best in the league, while Dalmatau also had a double. Michael Attwell and Ondrej Kozak had the other goals.
