Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen has completed the double at Bathurst to add a Sunday race victory to go with his season opening win at the famous venue on Saturday to take the lead in the Supercars championship.

The Red Bull Ampol racer started from pole position but was jumped by Cam Waters off the line.

Van Gisbergen, who hails from Manukau, trailed the Mustang driver through the first stint but pitted a lap earlier than Waters and managed to make a pass as the latter exited pit lane.

It was plain sailing from there for Van Gisbergen, who cruised to the chequered flag.

Waters held off yesterday’s runner up Chad Mostert to complete the podium.

Van Gisbergen won the championship in 2016 and enjoyed a terrific summer back in New Zealand, where he won the Battle of Jacks Ridge rally sprint and the 66th New Zealand Grand Prix.

The series moves to Sandown in Melbourne in a fortnight.
