Counties Manukau Stingrays, Auckland and Akarana have been ruled out of competing in the New Zealand Rugby League’s Men’s and Women’s Premierships this year due to the current COVID Alert Level settings.

No contract tracing is allowed under Alert Level 3 and there is now insufficient time for the Auckland-based teams to return to training and re-enter the competition.

It is a massive blow for the two Counties Manukau teams, who were considered a strong chance of winning both competitions.

It follows the NZ Rugby announcement last week that the region’s respective rugby union sides, including the Counties Manukau Steelers and Counties Manukau Heat, were also unable to return to their competitions.
