Counties Manukau Steelers Etene Nanai-Seturo and Alamanda Motuga have been named in the Moana Pasifika squad to play the New Zealand Maori next month.

The pair are included in a 26-strong side for the December 5 clash in Hamilton on the back of strong campaigns in the Mitre 10 Cup.

Nanai-Seturo was the class act in the Steelers back-line and proved a real handful for opponents with his blistering speed and dazzling footwork making him one of the most dangerous players in the competition.

Motuga had to wait for his opportunity having started the campaign in the extended squad. But the Samoan sevens star quickly established himself in coach Tai Lavea’s top side and he enjoyed a super season.

Moana Pasifika, who had been trying to earn inclusion into the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa competition, have named a very strong line-up and will hope to use the fixture to springboard the outfit into being included in a 2022 Super Rugby competition.

“We’re really proud of the squad we have selected – it’s a great side,” coach Tana Umaga said.

“We were really spoilt for choice with selections, and as we have always known, players were really drawn to be part of this special team.

“We believe we have selected a squad that represents a great mix of players who identify with the great nations of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.”
