The highly anticipated South Auckland super bout between Joseph Parker and Junior Fa has been postponed after the official fight doctor made the call.

Fa returned a blood test that has forced the fight to be moved from the agree December 12 date.

Organisers are hoping to reschedule the bout between to the two highly-ranked Kiwi boxers some time next year with late February or early March likely.

While they wouldn’t go into specifics in order to not hand his opponent an advantage, Fa’s manager Mark Keddell confirmed the news.

“Junior underwent a routine blood test on Friday,” Keddell said. “On Monday the doctor informed us he wouldn’t be cleared to fight in four weeks. As a result of that test, Junior will have an operation on Tuesday.

“Junior’s essentially had an injury and he’s going to have a routine operation.”

Keddell said while the news was “devastating” he didn’t see it affecting his fighter’s chances.

“He’s in amazing shape,” Keddell said. “He’s at his fight weight, he’s got a six pack, it’s just one of those things.”
