The man behind the establishment of the Takanini Giants American Football Club has set up a new club in South Auckland – the Manurewa Eagles.

Kennedy Faimanifo was the driving force behind the creation of the Giants as a football club over the past couple of years, which sae them begin life this summer in the top competition and has led to the club to making the final of the eight-man American Football Auckland Association final and just missing the final of the 11-man competition.

Now Faimanifo has begun a new project as he aims to grow his sport in South Auckland.

“We started the Giants from scratch and it took about two years to get to where they are now,” Faimanifo told Counties Sports Hub.

“We started with flag football and then moved up to contact.

“We will do the same thing with the Manurewa Eagles – have a colts team, a women’s team and a men’s team and build it grom the ground up.”

The Eagles will play out of Mountfort Park – the home of American Football in Auckland – and are aiming to have teams entered in next summer’s competitions.
