The Franklin Bulls will have a new head coach in 2024 with incumbent Daniel Sokolovsky stepping down after an historic season at the helm.

Sokolovsky, currently an assistant coach at the Breakers, led the Bulls to 12-6 record in the 2023 Sal’s NBL – good enough for a share of second on the table – and took the club to the finals for the first time.

He helped the team to achieve milestones including first away wins against the Sharks and Saints, and home wins against the Tuatara and Giants.

In 2023 he became the winningest coach in club history and also helped Isaac Davidson celebrate his 50th Sal’s NBL game and the first player to play 50 NBL games for the club.

“It was his relationships in the community that have endeared him to the club and wider basketball family,” said Bulls co-founder Jamie Reddish. “His connection with youth players at camps and junior players was appreciated by the wider basketball whānau and his connection with fans will leave an indelible mark on the club’s history.

“We are sad that Dan has decided to end his time as head coach – he’s been an amazing leader and with all the challenges we threw at him this year, he carried the mantle of head coach with the utmost professionalism and character.”

Sokolovsky will pursue opportunities back home and reconnect with family after seven years coaching around the world.

He has helped the Bulls find a replacement – it is understood an announcement about a new head coach will be made in the coming week or so.
