Pukekohe AFC has picked up the Rowe/Johnson Challenge Trophy after claiming honours in a club v club battle against fellow South Auckland outfit Papakura City on Saturday.

The two clubs went head-to-head in eight different grades in what club presidents Chris Rowe (Pukekohe) and David Johnson (Papakura City) intend to be an annual contest.

The day was a massive success and Pukekohe AFC made a post thanking organisers on the club’s Facebook page.

“Thanks to Dave and Papakura City FC for sending eight teams to play off in the inaugural Rowe/Johnson Challenge Trophy,” the post said.

“Huge thanks go to the pitch set up crew who, as per usual, were there to have our fields marked and goals and nets up. Yesterday’s massive day called for a 7am start in the rain.

“Special thanks to Dean and Fabs who stuck around and painted lines three times as the rain kept washing it off.

“Thanks to Bridget from Northern Region Football for organising an official ref for eight games.

“On the field it was honours even for the seniors but our juniors did the mahi early, and we got the treats, with the trophy staying at Bledisloe until the next challenge.

“We’re already looking forward to the next challenge when it’s Papakura’s turn to host.”
