Papakura Cricket Club will be boosted with the arrival of one Auckland’s best cricketers, a former player returning and a talented youngster joining the club for the 2023-24 season.

With the new season less than two weeks away, Papakura will have plenty of reasons to be optimistic of a strong campaign with wicketkeeper/batsman Shane Setia, top order batsman Souvak Dutta returning to the fold and young all-rounder Ishan Jain joining the club.

Setia has previously played for both Takapuna and Papatoetoe in the Auckland premier competition and was the highest run-scorer in Auckland during the 2021-22 season with 988 runs.

“I am thrilled and looking forward to being part of a new setup in Northern Districts and Counties Manukau,” Setia told Counties Sports Hub. “Getting amongst and training with the squad this winter has been a very welcoming experience so far, with the players and management being very supportive and responsive.

“My move to Papakura Cricket Club has been quite pleasant.

“There is huge potential within the club. I’m excited to be joining them and be a part of this team’s journey as well as future successes. A new challenge that I’m eagerly awaiting.”

Jain is a highly regarded all-rounder that has arrived from India and has linked up with Papakura.

He is a medium-paced bowler and middle order batsman – he is a hard-working player with plenty of upside.

Former Papakura player Dutta has returned to the club this summer having had a couple of seasons away playing out of the region.

Setia and Dutta will immediately improve the batting stocks within the club.

The season begins on October 7 with the Inder Lynch T20 competition.
