Paralympian gold medal winning swimmer Tupou Neiufi has won a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke S8 at the Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester.

It follows a silver medal in the same event at the 2019 World Championships.

Neiufi finished with a time of 1:20.35s to come in just behind Great Britain’s Alice Tai and Italian Xenia Francesca Palazzo.

“I’m super stoked to get bronze,” Neiufi said.

“That was an unreal swim from Alice. I’m really excited for the rest of the week, it’s a really important one for us as we look towards the Paralympic Games next year so it’s all go.”

The 22-year-old Pukekohe Swimming Club member won New Zealand’s first gold at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in the 100m backstroke S8 in Tokyo.

Neiufi will contest the 50m freestyle S8 on Friday at 9:02pm NZT.
