The Manurewa Marlins picked up their first win of the SAS Fox Memorial Premiership season on Saturday as they edged the Northcote Tigers 26-22 in Section 1.

Trailing 12-6 at halftime it was a big second half from the home side as they overcame the deficit and recorded a confidence-boosting victory.

The Howick Hornets continued their strong start to the season as they beat the Otara Scorpions 32-20 at Ngati Otara Park.

The Manukau Magpies drew 40-40 with the Bay Roskill Vikings to collect a crucial point to add to their season tally.

Over in Section 2 the bright spot for local teams was a 30-16 win for the Otahuhu Leopards over the Richmond Bulldogs.

Unfortunately the remaining South Auckland clubs didn’t perform as well – the Pakuranga Jaguars lost to the Glenora Bears 34-4, the Mangere East Hawks fell to the Ponsonby Ponies 36-30, Papatoetoe Panthers were hammered 64-4 by Marist Saints and Papakura Sea Eagles lost to Te Atatu Roosters 46-0.
